Just as the massive armour of this dinosaur made it virtually impregnable, it also determined that it could feed on nothing but low-lying vegetation such as ferns and perhaps the occasional flowering plant. Without the ability to chew, Ankylosaurus was another dinosaur which relied upon a lengthy digestion within a huge gut. The Mesozoic era must have been a place of some powerful smells, with such large amounts of vegetation fermenting within these giant herbivores!
